Statement of Steve Xiarhos in Recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day

May 15, 2020

BARNSTABLE – Steven Xiarhos, Republican candidate for State Representative in the Fifth Barnstable District, issued the following comments today in recognition of Police Week (May 10-16) and Peace Officers Memorial Day (May 15, 2020):–

“Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor the service and sacrifice of the thousands of men and women who work in law enforcement across our nation.

As a former police officer who served the people of Yarmouth for four decades, I can attest to the incredible professionalism and selfless devotion of those who wear the badge. Throughout my career, I was always in awe of the character and perseverance of those who surrounded me, considering myself privileged to work in the company of heroes every day.

As a candidate for State Representative, I hope to bring the same traits of service, integrity, and professionalism to my work on behalf of the people I represent. I also hope to advocate on their behalf for smart decisions on a variety of public safety issues: saying no to sanctuary cities, opposing drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, fighting against the ongoing opioid epidemic, making sure our state sufficiently punishes violent criminals, and supporting first responders with the training and resources they need to do their job.

To all those who continue to wear the badge and keep our streets safe every day, I say thank you. As a community, we salute you for your dedication and heroic work.”
