Xiarhos Issues Statement Condemning Violence in the City of Boston and Other Cities
June 1, 2020
Steven Xiarhos, Republican candidate for State Representative in the 5th Barnstable District, issued the following statement today in response to violence in the City of Boston and other cities last night:–
“I condemn violence in the City of Boston (and elsewhere) last night in the strongest possible terms. These actions make me both angry and sad for our community. Those responsible must be held accountable and prosecuted. I also praise Boston Police, MA State Police, and associated agencies for exercising enormous restraint and acting extremely professionally (as always). This morning, I pray for healing in our community. We are, as always, Boston Strong – even here on the Cape.
These events should not distract us from the core issue at stake, which is the unacceptability of racism and police brutality in our nation. As a lifetime police officer who spent years surrounded by honorable officers who displayed admirable character, and whom I continue to proudly stand behind today, I am especially sickened thinking about what happened to George Floyd. America has no place for such brutality. I repeat my past statements that those responsible for George Floyd’s death should be prosecuted and jailed.”
