Representing You in the Legislative Process

One of my most important jobs as your State Representative is to be YOUR voice whenever there are important matters being considered on Beacon Hill.

I worked hard to fulfill that obligation this session by maintaining a 100% voting record, participating in all of the roll call votes recorded in the House of Representatives in 2023-2024 (just over 200 in all).

These votes addressed many significant policy initiatives, including health care reform, veterans’ benefits, housing affordability, tax relief, data privacy protections, Second Amendment rights, prescription access, anti-stalking protections, and animal welfare.

I pushed for reforms to our state’s emergency assistance family shelter system, filing my own legislation to address the shelter program and mitigate the strain on municipal finances directly while also urging the state and Healey-Driscoll Administration to take steps to stem the flow of migrants and to provide homeless Massachusetts residents and veterans with priority placement status. I also supported a comprehensive tax relief package included as part of a 2023 economic development bill that is expected to provide taxpayers with an estimated $1.02 billion in savings once the changes are fully implemented in 2026. I voted for legislation authorizing $5.16 billion in bond authorizations and tax credits to spur housing production in Massachusetts, while implementing sweeping policy initiatives to facilitate the development of affordable housing and preserve public housing in Massachusetts (the “Affordable Homes Act”). I supported legislation to prioritize firefighter safety by reducing toxic chemical (PFAS) exposure. And, I was a member of the conference committee that achieved consensus on legislation expanding benefits for the Commonwealth’s veterans and service members, including access to behavioral health treatment and providing local-option property tax exemptions for service members (the “HERO Act”).

Aside from taking these votes, I also participated actively in hearings and meetings of the legislative committees to which I was appointed. These committees include the Joint Committee on Ways and Means, which is responsible for setting fiscal policy for the state and holding hearings regarding taxation and the annual state budget. We hold a series of committee hearings across the state each spring where we hear budget priorities and policy updates from each segment of the executive branch and its many agencies. I also serve proudly on the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs, and the Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and Recovery.
