Greater Oversight for Licensed Daycare Facilities

“Our children are innocent, and when they go to a daycare, we’re putting their lives in the hands of others…” I am appalled that the Commonwealth permitted a licensed daycare facility to operate in the same local house where a Brazilian national — a man who was sentenced to nine years in prison for rape of a child in his home country — was living. I concur with Worcester Sheriff Lew Evangelidis that this situation is “terrifying”. I always support accountability and high quality of service in state government, but this is one of those situations where failure simply is not an option. We need to be perfect. And, the fact that EEC does not check immigration status or out-of-the-country criminal history is very, very concerning. I am working together with Representative Diggs, in whose district this incident occurred, and others to further investigate this issue and help make sure this situation is not repeated again.
