XIARHOS COMMENDS UPDATED STATE BUDGET PLAN FILED BY GOVERNOR BAKER

October 14, 2020

WEST BARNSTABLE – Steven Xiarhos, Republican candidate for State Representative in the Fifth Barnstable District, issued the following statement today commending Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker for filing an updated state budget plan that does not include a broad-based tax increase:

“I would like to commend Governor Baker and his administration for proposing a new budget plan for the current fiscal year that does not involve any broad-based tax increases. While I await further details and I still remain concerned about certain financial consequences we face as a state — including substantial draws from our Rainy Day Fund and increased spending — our most important financial priority right now needs to be holding the line against new taxes. Working families simply cannot afford to pay more money. If elected, I look forward to working with the Baker administration to dig even deeper into our state’s finances and find ways to further improve our state’s financial position.”

Xiarhos has made fiscal responsibility a priority issue in his campaign, and has consistently voiced his opposition to tax increases for Massachusetts residents.
